I saw david at Newcastle City Hall last night and he was fantastic. My daughter came with me and I think he has a new younger fan. we had a great night. My sister used to come with me but she died 4 years ago. I'm not much younger than David but as long as he keeps performing I'll be there. Thank you to him for signing my tour brochure. I think I was the last one he signed. Wish I was there again tonight. X

My wife Vanessa used to live in St John’s Wood when David had an office in violet hill. Her family lived in a flat overlooking the office and her dad had the newsagents next door. She would have been 11 when David first released his records and she tells how she used to look out the flat window hoping to see him. Just to wish you a happy birthday for the 23rd July, we were both born on the same date. I was born in Enfield so probably not too many miles away from wherever you were born.
I have always taken a lot of interest in you and what you do and of course I have always admired you for ‘growing old gracefully’ something I have tried to do and think I have pretty much succeeded at.
I’m nobody special but the fact that you are still around and appear to be fit and healthy makes me happy as I see so many others of our age disappearing from my life, mostly due to not looking after their health and keeping fit over the years.
I love your voice and have enjoyed the films i have seen that you have been in - you make me feel as though getting old isn’t so bad after all.
Please keep going forever, something I am going to try to do!

Hi, I have a tale of two halves. Minding .y own business on the run up to Christmas I receive a Facebook pm "hi julie, just reaching out to a few fans to see what their favourite song is". From none other than D.e. now, call me sceptical , but I leapt straight in with a response, " is this really you? And blah do blah with my listening favourites over the years. Chatting continued over onto a WhatsApp number!!! I should have reigned it in there and I remember wondering if this was real of fantasy :) anyhow, as you have guessed it wasn't the real de and my bank balance was required to purchase a pre lit 7ft Christmas tree and £6500 to get out of some contract. Feeling rather deflated but thankful that I blocked the number and deleted the chat. It appears we're never too old to be the target or subject of the annoying scammers. There is a plus side to this story, I have found, via youtube, a renewal of lots of long forgotten de songs that I'm humming to again. I can heartily recommend "missing you" and "the smile" (especially the performance on the Val doonican show around June 1983). My Dad who is born just 3 days before David Essex has been recommending I watch the ‘That’ll Be The Day’ 1973 film with Ringo Starr. As a very young child in the early 1970’s, I fondly remember ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ and ‘Rock On’ performances shown on Australian television. In 2017 Sir Paul McCartney stopped for me when arriving to play live in Sydney. The music of yesteryear sounds just as good today. The American soap operas featuring Michael Damian still use your song ‘Rock On’ when Danny Romalotti returns to Genoa City.

First, I'd like to say what a huge fan I am. My dad would play Rock On for me as a kid, and it was one song that I'd always tell him to "play it again!" In 2024, I started my own dance company called Strive Dance Company. It's growing tremendously, and It's a lifelong dream come true. Our niche is that we perform to live music. And what kind of music inspires me? Rock! We've done a David Bowie Tribute and a Fleetwood Mac Tribute already. We've also put on a contemporary/spooky retelling of "Alice in Wonderland," and called it "Alice in a Twisted Wonderland." We've also done two dance videos. Last year we did a video to Florence and the Machine. This year we did our dance video to "Rock On." I just wanted to share the YouTube link with you and let you know that You're the heart of this video!

IN THE 70S I ENJOYED A NUMBER OF DAVID'S SINGLES--ESPECIALLY ROCK ON AND CITY LIGHTS. bUT FOR SOME REASON I SAW HIM AS JUST ANOTHER POP SINGER, AND AS SUCH NEVER LISTENED TO HIS ALBUMS. THEN A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK I READ IN MAGAZINE REVIEWS OF HIS FIRST 4 ALBUMS, EACH OF THEM IN THE REVIEW HIGHLY RATED. CURIOUS, I SET OUT TO FIND COPIES. NO EASY TASK. BUT COUPLE OF MONTHS BACK I FINALLY FOUND THEM. AND I AM HERE TO SAY THEY ARE AS GOOD AS THE REVIEWS SAID. A LOT OF THIS MATERIAL STANDS UP REALLY WELL, AND I'M KICKING MYSELF FOR HAVING WAITED SO LONG TO ENJOY THIS MUSIC. DAMNED IMPRESSIVE, I HAVE TO SAY. BUT WHY, OH WHY CAN WE NOT GET COPIES OF THE ALBUMS RELEASED UNDER HIS OWN LABEL?? I WOULD SO LOVE TO HEAR WHERE HIS SONGWRITING TOOK HIM OVER THE YEARS.
